All Saints Church in Weatherford will celebrate its 150th anniversary next month, and the Parker County Historical Commission marked the milestone with a proclamation read by County Judge Pat Deen before commissioners Monday. Commission Chair Janna Blumentritt said a cornerstone was laid on July 4, 1876, to build a small stone church not far from the Parker County Courthouse and Square; the congregation was first recognized in 1875 by Bishop Alexander C. Garrett, who assigned Rev. Edwin Wickens. After the congregation outgrew the chapel, the building was sold in 1920 to the city of Weatherford, which replaced it with a school; services were held in members' homes until a new building was constructed in 1923. Past parishioners have included international portrait artist Douglas Chandor, stage and screen star Mary Martin, Gen. William Hood Simpson, and Hollywood actor Larry Hagman, Mary Martin's son.
