The Story of Poolville

Poolville is named for exactly what it sounds like — a large, spring-fed pool of water in the Clear Fork of the Trinity River, around which the town grew up in the early 1880s.

About 1879 A.H. "Major" Dunn donated land for a townsite, and a proper community took shape: a schoolhouse and church building went up, and postal service began in 1883. The Poolville Cemetery, established in 1882, still holds many of the town's pioneers and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

The early 1900s were Poolville's busiest era. The town organized its first bank in 1905 and added two hotels, blacksmith shops, a cotton gin, a saddle-and-harness shop, a telephone office, and even its own newspaper, the Poolville Searchlight, around 1910. By 1920 the population topped 500.

Today Poolville is a quiet census-designated place in northern Parker County, anchored by Poolville ISD and the Monarchs.
