Weatherford council renews permit for downtown container-style Middleton Hotel

The Weatherford City Council on Tuesday unanimously renewed a conditional use permit for the Middleton Hotel, a container-style boutique hotel planned for downtown, after the original CUP expired. The latest proposal is for a 14-room hotel — two fewer than previously listed — with a larger courtyard, an 8-by-20-foot pool, matching structures and landscaping; applicant Matt Hughes said the team had to reapply after the original project's scope more than doubled. The shipping containers would be screened with exterior insulation or a stucco-type finish and painted to comply with the zoning ordinance, with no murals or artwork on the exterior. The project is headed by ATH Hotel Group, LLC, which created the Middleton Hotel in Graham; under the permit the structure must be removed if the hotel ceases operating for 180 days or more, and the CUP is void if the project isn't completed within 18 months. In the same meeting, the council gave assent for Parker County Judge Pat Deen's reappointment to the North Central Texas Council of Governments, with Wise County Judge JD Clark as an alternate.
