Weatherford moving ahead on Lake Weatherford public beach and new Lake Trail

The City of Weatherford announced it is moving forward with major improvements at Lake Weatherford. Planned lakefront work includes a new public beach with restored sand, a block seawall, a restroom building, two pavilions, three beach palapas, and two regulation sand volleyball courts; the public beach and restrooms will be free to use, while the pavilions, palapas, and courts will be first-come, first-served unless reserved. The city is also advancing a Lake Trail Project in two phases — Phase 1, a 10-foot-wide hike-and-bike trail, targeted for completion in spring 2027, and Phase 2, extending the trail across the dam to East Lake Drive, targeted for summer 2029. Beach construction is planned to begin after the summer season, with completion targeted for Spring Break 2027. The projects were identified in the city's General Plan and Parks Master Plan. Parks, Recreation, and Special Events Director Jaycob Kirkpatrick said the improvements are about making the lake easier for everyone to enjoy.
